Tim Tag and 10 Days to go!
This tag took forever and I'm so pleased with it. I'd set myself a challenge to start a blog and enter a challenge before my fifteenth birthday and I've cut it close ( only ten days to go!) but I did it. So, I am really thrilled to be entering this tag into my first two challenges.... Tim Holtz, one of my craft inspirations Twelve Tags of 2012 and the Summer Ice Cream Colours Challenge at Fashionable Stamping Challenges. I chose the pink, cream and brown to represent Neapolitan ice cream.
Because I don't have the die to make roses I improvised! I started to play with the leftover pieces from when my mum die cut the tag for me and discovered that the inner bit of one of the book plates on the die could be cut into a spiral which could be twirled into a rose! I use Core'dinations card and sanded them a little. Next I cut them into a spiral which I then cut into petal shapes (still keeping it a spiral). Then I twisted it into a rose which is very fiddly so took forever but is very calming. To keep it together I cut a small square of double sided tape a glue gun probably would have worked better but I managed and it got easier as I made more!
You can see here the piece I used, it is the oval from the Tim book plate. I tried out some different versions and ended up using the plain one instead of the embossed one.
I wanted a white silhouette so I stamped with clear embossing ink then heat embossed it. with Seafoam White powder them cut it out because it had a square frame that I didn't want. I used two Distress Inks Spun Sugar and Victorian Velvet to tint the frame for the lady. I used double sided tape to stick her to the tag which I had embossed and sanded down. I looked at lots of ribbons but couldn't chose one so picked some of my knitting wool instead. I used some awesome tea dye tinted lace/ribbon that my mum made at the bottom of the tag. Finally I stuck on my chosen stickers.

Oh Els! I love this tag and am amazed by the amount of patience that you displayed making those tiny and stunning flowers! As ever, your sense of colour and placement rocks and it is hard to believe this is one of the first tags you have ever made! Proud of you daughter!
ReplyDeleteLove your tag! Such pretty roses and color choices (I'm partial to polka dots), using a white silhouette is very original and that touch of lace really looks terrific too.

Well done Els. You have just taught so many of us 'experienced' crafters what to do if you don't have the spiral dies and I for one will be having a go (not sure if I've got your patience but let's see!) It really doesn't look like this is your first Tim tag and I wish you the very best of luck in both challenges. Looking forward to your next tutorial already! Hugs, Buttons x

ReplyDeleteHi Els, your innovation with this tag is so impressive! I started out making my flowers like you did and I love the look of them, fiddly I know, but so worth it in the end. Your tag is stunning, I love the colours you have used, the tag has a very vintage feel to it. I do hope you win either (or both!) challenge, you certainly get an 'A' for effort and patience.....Crafty hugs, Anne x
